What Causes Tooth Discoloration?

Smoking or using tobacco can also cause teeth to yellow. Whitening treatments can usually address these stains. Internal staining caused by a trauma to the tooth or because of medications or dental procedures including a root canal, will require special whitening options such as deep internal bleaching or the application of a crown or veneer.

How Safe Are Whitening Procedures?

The procedures and gels used at a dentist’s office for bleaching or whitening teeth a person teeth will be very safe. Only proven, advanced teeth whitening procedures will be used at the office to guarantee that the patient sees the results they desire without adverse side effects. There can be mild tooth sensitivity after the whitening procedure however this will diminish quickly and should be minimal. Patients can be proud of their smiles and teeth after the procedures and will not have to worry that they put their teeth at risk.

What is Zoom Whitening?

This is the most commonly used whitening treatment. It begins having the patient assessed for tooth damage or decay by the dentist. Any areas of decay found will be cleaned and treated prior to the whitening. When the whitening begins, an effective, light activated gel made with hydrogen peroxide will coat each tooth’s surface. To ensure that each tooth is covered with the same amount of gel and exposed to the same amount of light, the patient’s lips will be held back with a retainer. The gel is applied and the light directed on it for approximately 15 minutes. After the allotted time, the gel will be removed along with the lip retainer. Patients will see whiter, brighter teeth immediately.
